Clinical Case
NEW CLUE — Nº 1
A young woman attends a routine eye examination with no visual complaints, though mentions occasional mild distortion in one eye over recent months.
2She has no significant past medical or family history of eye disease, and the mild distortion has been slowly present rather than sudden in onset.
GUESS TO BRING INTO FOCUS
3Visual acuity is mildly reduced in the affected eye; the anterior segment examination is unremarkable.
GUESS TO BRING INTO FOCUS
4Dilated fundus examination reveals a yellow-white, well-demarcated, slightly elevated lesion adjacent to the optic disc, with irregular but well-defined margins.
GUESS TO BRING INTO FOCUS
5B-scan ultrasonography reveals a highly reflective lesion with dense posterior acoustic shadowing, a pattern distinct from the acoustic hollowness typically seen in a pigmented malignant choroidal tumour.
GUESS TO BRING INTO FOCUS
6CT imaging confirms the lesion has the density of bone, consistent with a benign ossifying tumour of the choroid rather than a malignancy; the patient is reassured and monitored periodically for slow growth or the development of associated neovascularisation.
